Elsevier got its name from the original House of Elzevir, the Dutch family publishing House founded in 1580. Elsevier's history reflects a series of collaborations to advance science and medicine. Publishing collaborations with a group of scientific visionaries, from Jules verne to Stephen Hawking, laid the foundation for scientific and medical publishing.
