PHYTON is an international botanical journal. Two issues, forming a volume (320 pages), are published annually. The aim of PHYTON is the publication of scientific papers from all major fields of plant science (Botany, Phytology). As in other fields of scientific endeavour, new discoveries and advanced analysis in plant science has resulted in specialization. Since the plant, however, is a biological entity plant research will progress at its best, when Botany does not fully disintegrate into individual disciplines with little or no interconnections among them. Alongside the indispensable specialized journals, therefore, other periodicals are needed which cover the whole field. Abstracts alone are insufficient to establish real communication between plant scientists in the diverse fields. With the aim to alleviate the lack of journals covering the plant science in general, PHYTON was established in 1948 by Prof. Dr. Friedl WEBER and Prof. Dr. Felix J. WIDDER (former heads of the Institute of Plant Physiology and of Botany, respectively, University of Graz).
